CFA District 4 is located in Casterton, approximately 45km from the South Australian border. The area covered by the District is predominately the Glenelg Shire, which is made up of rural areas and significant residential areas in the townships of Portland, Casterton and Heywood. There are smaller townships at Nelson, Dartmoor, Digby and Merino. Much of the rural area is used for timber and farming in the form of grazing and dairy.
Within the district there are five Groups with 41 brigades, seven Forestry Indestry Brigades, Portland Coast Guard and The Headquarters Brigade.
